To provide a method for the gasifying of a water-containing biomass capable of achieving improved gasification ratio by the treatment under a low pressure at a low temperature compared with those of conventional treatment processes.
A water-containing biomass is solubilized in a solubilizing apparatus 2 at 230-300C under a pressure of 3-10 MPa and then gasified at 400-600C under a pressure of 3-10 MPa in a reactor 1 connected to the downstream of the solubilizing apparatus 2. The solubilization is promoted by supplying a hydroxide such as NaOH, KOH or Ca(OH)2 and oxygen through the inlet part of the solubilizing apparatus 2 and reacting with the water-containing biomass. The gasification ratio can be increased from the conventional level 70% to 90% by this method.
