Abstract:

To provide a method for melting glass forming material in a glass melting furnace equipped with at least one oxygen-fuel burner mounted on the ceiling, which enables to increase the glass manufacturing speed, enhance the yield of glass and reduce the exhaustion of nitrogen oxides and/or sulfur oxides by improving heat transfer.

This method comprises supplying a flow of fuel and a flow of gaseous oxidant to at least a burner 34 mounted on the ceiling 22 of a glass melting furnace 10, pouring the fuel and the oxidant into the furnace, making at least a part of combustion proceed in the vicinity of a glass forming material 30 so as to generate convective and radiative heat transfer to the glass forming material 30.
