Title:
METHOD FOR HOLDING SEMISOLIDIFIED METAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0488133
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To manufacture a metallic casting of excellent quality, at the time of molding a semisolidified metal by a die casting machine or the like, by previously storing up the semisolidified metal in a container made of refractories, subjecting it to intensive stirring to prevent the combination of solid phase grains caused by cohesion and feeding the semisolidified metal into a working machine in a uniform state.

CONSTITUTION: At the time of molding a metal 2 in a semisolidified state where a solid phase and a liquid phase are coexistent by a die casting machine or the like, before it is fed into a die casting machine, the semisolidified metal 2 is temporarily stored up in a container 1 made of refractories and is subjected to intensive stirring by rotating a stirrer 5 at 200 to 500rpm rotating speed while the semisolidified metal 2 is held to a solid-liquid coexistent temp. by a heating coil 3. The coarsening of the crystalline grains caused by the cohesion of solid phase metals each other in the semisolidified metal is suppressed, and the separation of the solid-liquid and segregation and the deterioration of the fluidity caused by the above are prevented, by which a metallic casting of excellent quality can be manufactured.
