To provide a hydrogenating method capable of reducing lowering of activity of a hydrogenation catalyst when hydrogenating a monoolefin and/or diolefin in a C5 fraction and a method for producing olefins in which the C5 fraction can effectively be utilized by mixing the C5 fraction with naphtha.
The method for hydrogenating the C5 fraction comprises hydrogenating a monoolefin and/or a diolefin after washing C5 fraction containing the monoolefin and/or the diolefin with water. In the hydrogenating method, the C5 fraction is washed with water by a method mixing the C5 fraction with water by using a static mixer and separating free water by separation by standing. In the hydrogenating method, the C5 fraction containing the monoolefin and/or the diolefin is preferably a C5 fraction produced by thermal decomposition of naphtha and left after extracting isoprene by an isoprene extraction plant.
