Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for identifying a genetic variant that is associated with development of a pathology of interest (e.g., Alzheimer's disease), and to provide a method of treatment with an active agent (e.g., with a particular active agent and/or at an earlier age), upon detecting a genetic variant identified by the method.SOLUTION: The invention provides a method for determining whether the risk of developing late-onset Alzheimer's disease is increased in a subject by detecting the presence or absence of the genetic variation of a deletion/insertion polymorphism (DIP) of TOMM40 gene; a method for determining whether the subject is responsive to the treatment of a pathology of interest with an active agent; and a kit for determining the risk of developing the Alzheimer's disease or for responding to the treatment of the condition.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
