PURPOSE: To improve the cetane number of directly distilled diesel fuel by bringing the oil into contact with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a carboxylic acid or bringing it into contact with a peroxycarboxylic acid.
CONSTITUTION: 1 kg of directly distilled diesel fuel is reformed by bringing it into contact with below 300 g of hydrogen peroxide at a temperature of about 50 to 100°C in the presence of a carboxylic acid selected among formic acid, acetic acid and propionic acid (desirably formic acid) or by bringing it into contact with a peroxycarboxylic acid selected among performic acid, peracetic acid and perpropionic acid in the presence of absence of hydrogen peroxide. The molar ratio of the carboxylic acid to the hydrogen peroxide is desirably about 0.01-1 (especially about 0.1 to 0.5).
