PURPOSE: To improve image receiving paper in durability, light resistance, and resistance to staining with dye by thermally treating the thermal transfer image receiving paper recorded with a sublimable dye.
CONSTITUTION: In a thermal transfer system of a sublimation transfer type, a dye is transferred by sublimation from a colorant layer of thermal transfer paper to a dyeing layer of image receiving paper within a limited time by a heat from a thermal head. Therefore, in the image receiving paper just after printing, a relatively large amount of dye 3 is distributed on the surface of the dyeing layer 2 provided on a substrate 1, thus easily deteriorating by light or oxygen in the air. Under a heat treatment, the dye 3 in the dyeing layer 2 is redistributed to be nearly uniformly dispersed. A dye concentration on the surface of the dyeing layer is so low as to improve a light resistance and a resistance to staining with dye. By further applying the heat treatment, a part having a dye distribution with high concentration is generated in the deep part of the dyeing layer. On the contrary, a layer having a low or almost no dye concentration is generated on the surface of the dyeing layer. The surface layer of a low dye concentration serves as a protective layer 2' to photo-deterioration factors to further improve a durability.
