Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the sunlight stability of a lubricating oil base product, by subjecting liquid products produced by the isomerization of wax to hydrorefining in the presence of a specified catalyst under mild conditions.

CONSTITUTION: All liquid products produced by the isomerization of wax are subjected to hydrorefining in the presence of a catalyst selected from group VIII metals and carried on a refractory metal oxide under mild conditions, i.e., at a temperature of 170-270°C (preferably 180-220°C), a flow rate of 0.25-10 V/V/hr (preferably 1-4 V/V/hr), a pressure of 300-1,500 psiH2 (preferably 500-1,000 psiH2), and a hydrogen gas flow rate of 500-10,000 SCF/B (preferably 1,000-5,000 SCF/B).
