PURPOSE: To obtain a method for inactivating an virus existing in samples of living bodies, their extracts, their fractionated materials or pharmaceutical preparations containing these materials, as the case may be, or the virus attached to tools for operation, operator's clothes, etc., as the case may be, a method for lowering immunogenicity in the case where a material to be treated is derived from a living body and a method for simultaneously carrying out these both method.
CONSTITUTION: A material to be treated is irradiated with electron beam. Since exposure dose of the electron beam is accurately controllable and the irradiation treatment is carried out in an extremely short time the material to be treated is hardly deteriorated and can be treated in large amounts even if the material to be treated is a substance derived from a living body. Further, since the electron beam has strong transmission power and does not cause heat evolution to the material to be treated, irradiation can be carried out under arbitrary and optimum storing conditions such as liquid state, frozen state, a state of dried powder and freeze-dried state and since electron beam permeates a container such as multiple dose container, irradiation treatment can be carried out in a state sealed in the container. Consequently, contamination owing to microorganisms, etc., can be prevented even after irradiation.
