Abstract:
To provide a method for improving bioavailability of azithromycin (9a-aza-9a-methyl-9-deoxo-9a-homoerythromycin A) and further to provide a composition having the improved bioavailability.
The bioavailability of the azithromycin can be increased by administering the azithromycin in combination with a p-glycoprotein(p-gp) inhibitor. The azithromycin and the p-gp inhibitor can be administered in combination as one composition, or as separated components. When they are administered separately, they can be incorporated as a kit.
