PURPOSE: To inspect simply and quickly by casting X-rays from a plurality of different directions to a formed product of a carbonaceous substance of a specific volumetric void fraction, and re-constructing an image on the basis of the projection image.
CONSTITUTION: The formed product of a carbonaceous substance is a woven laminate material, felt or the like having approximately 10-80% volumetric void fraction. The formed product is placed between an X-ray tube and a detector, to which X-rays are cast from a plurality of directions. An optimum X-ray effective energy differs depending on a thickness of the formed product. For example, when a maximum thickness of the body is about 0.1-50cm, the X-ray effective energy is about 20-200keV. A scintillation counter, a proportional counter, a multi-channel detector or the like is used as the detector. A lot of transmission data modulated by an absorption amount of X rays inside the formed product is collected and a sectional image is re-constructed by a computer. Data from a plurality of directions are collected by rotating and scanning the body. In this manner, a count of measuring points is increased, and therefore noises are lessened relatively, whereby an erroneous detection of a void or a foreign matter is prevented.
