PURPOSE: To provide a discriminating method for leakage of molten metal of preventing the leakage of it from occurring by beforehand judging the presence/absence of the leakage of the molten metal from a pouring hole by means of a vacuum suction in a vessel for treating the molten metal.
CONSTITUTION: A nozzle 4 for pouring out the molten metal is provided on the bottom part of the vessel 2, and a gap 5 between a stopper 1 and the nozzle 4 is tightly closed by subjecting the stopper 1 and the nozzle 4 to fitting work. Before storing the molten metal into the vessel 2, a suction pipe 13 to be closely fitted to the tip part of the pouring hole is fitted through a packing 15 and fitting part 14 thereto. A potable type vacuum suction device 11 is connected to this suction pipe 13 through the packing and a vacuum meter 12 is fitted as a vacuum degree measuring instrument for measuring the vacuum degree in the suction pipe 13. Successively, the stopper 1 is press-fixed to the nozzle 4 and the vacuum suction device 11 is driven to evacuate the inner part of the suction pipe the vacuum, and the vacuum degree is compared with the set value and the fitting condition between the stopper 1 and the nozzle 4 is measured by evacuation. The set value is less than -20cmHg vacuum.
