Title:
METHOD AND INSTRUMENT FOR MEASURING HEIGHT OF LIQUID LEVEL USING PICTURE PROCESSOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3189579
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To easily measure the level of a liquid in a container even when the boundary between the surface of the liquid and the wall surface of the container is not clear by installing a measuring scale with scale divisions to the wall surface in a state where the scale is inclined from the vertical line by a specific angle and analyzing pictures fetched by a camera from the surface or its vicinity of the liquid.
CONSTITUTION: An image containing the real image of a measuring scale 50 installed to the side wall 15 of a tank 11 at an inclined angle and the reflected or refracted image 50" of the scale 50 on the surface 23 of a liquid is fetched as a picture by a camera 1. A picture processor 2 extracts the linear part 53 of the scale 53 and the reflected image 53" of the part 53 by binarization, etc., based on color information or gradation picture contained in the picture and finds the formulae of two straight lines by separately setting two windows to the real image 53 and reflected image 53". Then the processor 2 finds the height of the level of the liquid by finding the intersection P of the two straight lines from the formulae and binarizing the opposite number values above the coordinates of the intersection, and then, converting the opposite numbers into coordinates in an actual physical space. The processor 2 transfers the found results to a data output controller 4.
