Abstract:

To provide a method for irradiating with an electron beam adapted to advantageously prevent local high-temperature warming up of an idle target, and consequently, avoid a deformation of the idle target and production of a metal vapor as well.

The method for irradiating a metal strip with an electron beam includes radiating an electron beam onto an additionally provided idle target during the time elapsing until an output of the electron beam is stabilized, or the time when the electron beam is radiated onto an exterior of the metal strip, in which a diameter of a beam-irradiated area on the surface of the idle target is adjusted by slanting a beam-irradiated surface of the idle target to vary a radiation angle of the electron beam with respect to the beam-irradiated surface of the idle target.
