PURPOSE: To obtain a 2-ketopolyhydroxy-6C-carboxylic acid, useful as the intermediate for producing vitamin C, simply without producing by-products by subjecting a fermentation liq. after the removal of a biomass to extraction with an alkanol under specified conditions and decomposing the resultant extract.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compd. is obtd. by subjecting a fermentation liq. separated from a biomass and contg. a calcium salt of a 2-ketopolyhydroxy-6 C-carboxylic acid to extraction undr a CO2 pressure of 10-60 bar in the presence of a 15-40C amine (e.g. trioctylamine) in an amt. of 2-6 mol., pref. 3.5-5 mol., (based on 1 mol. of the 2-ketopolyhydroxy-6C-carboxylic acid in the liq.) with a 4-8C alkanol (esp. isobutanol) in an amt. of 1.5-2.5 pts.wt., pref. 1.6-2.0 pts.wt., (based on 1 pt.wt. amine) at 20-80°C, separating precipitated calcium carbonate, and decomposing an addition product obtd. by the extraction.
