To provide a novel method for isomerizing a feed raw material comprising at least one aromatic compound containing 8 carbon atoms per molecule carried out in the presence of at least one catalyst comprising at least one modified zeolite of an EUO type structure, at least one binder and at least one group VIII metal in the periodic table.
The catalyst is prepared by a method comprising at least the following successive steps: (a) a step for treating zeolite of an EUO type structure in the presence of at least one molecular compound containing at least one silicon atom, where the compound having a larger diameter than the largest pore in the zeolite is deposited on the outer surface of the zeolite in a gas phase, (b) at least one heat treatment step, (c) molding of the zeolite using the binder, and (d) at least one step for introducing at least one group VIII metal in the periodic table on a support based on the modified and molded zeolite.
