Title:
METHOD FOR JOINING CATALYTIC ELECTRODE TO ION EXCHANGE MEMBRANE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS61223191
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To join a catalytic electrode having uniform quality on one surface of an ion exchange membrane by bringing water into contact with one surface of the ion exchange membrane and bringing a catalytic metallic compd. soln. into contact with the other surface then reducing the same and growing the catalytic metal with the deposited metal as a nucleus. CONSTITUTION:The ion exchange membrane 1 is mounted via a packing 2 on a holder 3. Water is then fed through a liquid feed port 4 to the side where the membrane 1 is not plated to form a water bath 5. On the other hand, an aq. soln. of a platinum amine complex is fed through a liquid feed port 7 to the plating side to form a plating bath 6. The substn. of the hydrogen ions and platinum complex ions of the membrane 1 is executed in this state. After the bath 6 is discharged, an aq. sodium borohydride is fed and is reduced to deposit the platinum to act as the nucleuous for plating on the surface of the membrane 1. The platinum is then uniformly deposited on one surface of the membrane 1 from an aq. chloroplatinic acid soln. and aq. hydrazine hydrochloride soln. as a reducing agent by which the platinum catalytic electrode is obtd.
