PURPOSE: To remove segregation, etc., in a jointed part, to prevent deterioration in mechanical properties, and to enable welding of complicated shape by applying temperature treatment, etc., to a metal thermally sprayed into a cavity formed between metals to be welded to remove pores and reducing residual stress.
CONSTITUTION: A first metallic member and a second metallic member are arranged adjacently to each other, and a cavity is formed between these metallic members. The surface of the cavity is cleaned and preheated to 1500 to 1800°F in a low-pressure atmosphere to facilitate metallurgical joining to a thermally sprayed metal. Subsequently, a molten metal is thermally sprayed into the cavity and successively consolidated rapidly in the cavity to form a thermally sprayed metal having pores in part. Then, these joined metallic members are cooled slowly to reduce residual stress. The joined metallic members are hot pressed to remove the pores in the above thermally sprayed metal part, by which the two metallic members can be joined metallographically to each other.
