To obtain a stable joined face by the small input of electric power in a short time and under safe operation at the time of joining the rear end part of a preceding slab and the tip part of the succeeding slab.
In the joining method in which the rear end part of the preceding slab and the tip part of the succeeding slab are faced to each other with an interval and, after executing the induction heating of the end parts of both slabs by impressing alternating magnetic field which penetrates through in the thickness direction in the vicinities of the faced end parts of both these slabs, both these end parts are pressed and joined, at the time of induction heating of both the slabs, the frequency of a power source for generating the alternating magnetic field is measured, the generation of sparks between both the slabs is detected based on the variation of the frequency after t1 hours and, at this point of time, the interval between both the slabs is widened from G0 to G0'.
