To provide a method for joining steel cords capable of performing the joint of the terminals of the steel cords with each other, without causing the wide decreases of cord physical properties in the case of joining by welding, and the steel cord obtained by the same.

This method for joining the steel cords involves joining the terminals of a pair of steel cords 1a, 1b comprising the twists of a plurality of steel wires 11a, 11b, with each other. After releasing each of the twists of the bundles of steel wires 11a, 11b at the terminals of the pair of steel cords 1a, 1b, the bundles of released one pair of steel wires 11a, 11b are combined with each other as one unit so as to oppose with each other, and then they are joined by twisting.
