Title:
METHOD FOR JOINING WORKPIECES BY FRICTION MIXTURE JOINING
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH1133749
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method for joining workpieces by friction mixture joining wherein a secure joint having no lack of thickness can be formed and both the workpieces can be joined to form a neat-looking butt joint without a projection, depression or burr. SOLUTION: Both the workpieces 6, 7 are formed so that the areas along a butting part 8 are formed at thick parts 6a, 7a swelled toward a tool 1 in the approximate range of the diameter of a tool shoulder 4 spanning both the workpieces 6, 7. The thick parts 6a, 7a are slanted 10, 10 so that the thickness is gradually reduced toward the perimeter of the shoulder 4. The sides of the thick parts 6a, 7a facing the tool 1 are formed flat 9, 9 in the approximate range of the diameter of a probe 3 spanning both the workpieces 6, 7.
