Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inject reagents of a plurality of species of extraneous substances into live cells for each species at a high speed without causing permanent damage to the plurality of live cells.
SOLUTION: The live cells 11 together with water containing the extraneous substances 13 are placed in microcells which are irradiated with laser beams 17 to generate shock waves 19 in water without directly irradiating the live cells 11. Cell membranes are transiently opened by pressure varying effects with the shock waves 19 and the extraneous substances 13 are simultaneously introduced into the live cells 11 with high efficiency. Each cell on a cell array in which the plurality of cells are prepared side by side on a substrate is successively irradiated with the laser beams 17 oscillated at a high repetitive frequency. The extraneous substances 13 are automatically injected into the live cells 11 present in each cell at the high speed by the method.
