Title:
METHOD FOR LIMING HIDE AND SKIN
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3211914
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce the sulfide content of waste water while ensuring the optimum softness which is an advantage of the traditional liming method by incorporating thiourea dioxide and an alkali protease having elastase activity into a liming bath having a specified range of pH value.
CONSTITUTION: When hides and skins are limed using a proteolytic enzyme in an alkaline aq. bath, thiourea dioxide and an alkali protease having elastase activity are incorporated into the liming bath having pH 10-14, advantageously 12-14. The incorporation of 0.3-2 wt.%, particularly 0.5-1 wt.% thiourea dioxide together with an effective amt. of one or ore alkali proteases is advantageous. In this method, the presence of an inorg. sulfide or sulfide ions and the use of chemicals which generate a sulfide under reaction conditions are made unnecessary.
