Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent wall surfaces of grooves from being broken even when pressing force acts on the side wall surfaces of the grooves in the width direction of the grooves, when the grooves are formed to cross projections by press working on the tops of the projections after forming the projections (spline gear teeth) by form rolling on a metallic workpiece.SOLUTION: In a method for machining a metallic workpiece, projections 11 are formed on the metallic workpiece by form rolling, and simultaneously, recesses 17 are formed at least on a formation scheduled area of grooves 14, which is a width direction central part on the tops of the projections 11, and thereafter, the grooves 14 are formed by press working on the groove formation scheduled area on the tops of the projections 11.
