To provide a method for making a clay shaped article with a decorative pattern wherein the decorative pattern drawn personally or printed, or a photograph or the like, is presented on the surface of the three-dimensional clay shaped article and thereby three-dimensional shaping and surface decoration can be performed simultaneously.

Clay is spread to be thin evenly by a roller or the like and the spread clay is prepared to be in a prescribed shape by a trimming die for each sort of arbitrary shape, or the clay is spread to be thin evenly on a cutting pattern by the roller or the like so that the spread clay in a prescribed shape according to the cutting pattern be prepared. Woodworking glue is applied on the surface of the spread clay and thin decorative pattern paper is stuck on this surface, so that the clay shaped article with the decorative pattern formed of the spread clay and the thin decorative pattern paper integrated with each other be prepared. Thus the surface decoration can be performed simultaneously with the three-dimensional shaping in this method for making the clay shaped article with the decorative pattern.
