Title:
METHOD FOR MAKING SMOOTH LOW DENSITY PAPERBOARD
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2007169870
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a low density insulating paperboard having low density and a smooth surface.

The paperboard has at least two or three plies. One of the plies has at least 25 wt.% bulky cellulosic fibers, and another of the plies is an outer ply has an outer surface having a Parker Print Surf measurement of 3-6μm measured at 10 kg/cm2 using a soft backing surface, and the paperboard has a density of ≤0.5 g/cm3. In an embodiment, the paperboard has a thickness of 0.4-1.2 mm, and in an embodiment, the paperboard has a basis weight of 200-500 g/m2. The method for making a paperboard product comprises the passing of a web through a soft nip calender and an extended nip calender (or shoe calender) under conditions which provide the surface and density properties.
