Title:
METHOD FOR MAKING SURFACE HYDROPHILIC PHOTOCATALYTICALLY, COMPOSITE MATERIAL HAVING PHOTOCATALYTICALLY FORMED HYDROPHILIC SURFACE AND COATING COMPOSITION FORMING HYDROPHILIC FILM ON THE SURFACE OF BASE MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH10140046
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a method for making the surface of a base material highly hydrophilic and a composite material having a highly hydrophilic surface of the base material by using the method.

This method makes the surface of a base material hydrophilic by a photocatalytic action. The base material is covered with a photocatalytic titania coating 10. A solid acid capable of increasing a hydrogen bonding component γsh of a surface energy at a solid/gas interface is carried on the surface of the photocatalytic coating 10. When the photocatalyst is photoexcited, the hydrogen bonding component γsh of the surface energy of the photocatalytic coating 10 is increased by the photocatalytic action and physical adsorption of a water molecule in the atmosphere onto hydrogen atoms on a terminal OH group 12 and a bridged OH group 14 bonded to titanium atoms on the surface by the hydrogen bond 16 is accelerated.
