Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the leakproofness of an alkaline battery by forming a hydrophobic insulating film and a hydrophilic gel layer on the inner peripheral surface adjacent to the insulating film at the peripheral edge of cathode can contacting with a packing and drying it.

CONSTITUTION: Anode active substance 2 is contained in an anode can 1, and cathode active substance 4 is contained via separator group 3 in a cathode can 5. Both the cans 1, 5 are sealed via packing 6 to thereby obtain a button type battery. Before sealing the cans, an insulating film 7 prepared by coating antialkaline hydrophobic compound such as, for example, fatty polyamide or the like on the peripheral edge of the cathode can 5 making contact with the packing 6 and drying it, and a hydrophilic gel layer 8 is formed on the inner periphery adjacent to the film 7, and dried and then sealed. This gel layer 8 is highly viscous gell prepared by coating antialkaline gelatinizer such as, for example, CMC, PVA, polyacrylic acid sodium or the like and water.
