To make it hard to subject a spline part formation portion on an inner periphery of a shaft body to deformation during caulking process through a method of manufacturing a bearing device, and to enable to maintain high accuracy of the spline part.
In the method of manufacturing the bearing device, the bearing 12 is mounted to a hollow shaft 14 included in a hub wheel 11, and a shaft end 14a of the hollow shaft 14 is deformed outward in the radial direction and secured to an outer end surface of an inner ring 15 of the bearing 12 by caulking, thereby firmly fixing the bearing 12 to the hollow shaft 14 for preventing from disconnecting. Between the spline part formation portion 141 on an inner peripheral surface of the hollow shaft 14 and the caulked part formation portion 142 from a start point for folding B when folding the shaft end 14a of the hollow shaft 14 outward in the radial direction to a shaft end surface of the hollow shaft 14, a buffer portion 143 is formed in order to repress deformation against the inner peripheral surface of the hollow shaft 14 during caulking process. Therefore, the bearing device is manufactured so that this buffer portion 143 cushions deformation on the spline part formation portion 141.
