The method of manufacturing the book with a recess includes steps of: folding a plurality of unbound printed sheets into signatures (50); gathering the signatures (50) into the aggregation body (52) of the signatures (50); joining together the signatures (50) included in the aggregation body (52); attaching the cover to the aggregation body (52) at the same time when the signatures (50) are joined or thereafter; prior to the cover attaching step, removing a part corresponding to the recess from the unbound printed sheets, the signatures (50) or the aggregation body (52).
