To provide a method of manufacturing a cellulose ester film excellent in optical characteristics.
The method of manufacturing the cellulose ester film includes a step D0 of conveying a cellulose ester film which has been cast and released, a step A of grasping the widthwise end of the conveyed film, a step B of stretching the cellulose ester film in the widthwise direction, and a step D1 of drying the cellulose ester film, to manufacture the cellulose ester film so that the retardation (Ro) distribution in the cellulose ester film surface within ±2° from a mean orientation angle is 5% or less even at any measuring point of the orientation angle in the widthwise direction. A tension cutting roll is provided in the step D0, the film atmosphere temperature is set to 20 to 70°C, the distribution of the temperature in the widthwise direction is set at within ±5°C, and the cellulose ester film is conveyed with the tension set at 30 to 300 N/m. Poor solvent mass/(good solvent mass+poor solvent mass)×100 (%) at the end point of the step D0 is regulated to 95 to 15 mass%.
