To provide a method for manufacturing a ceramic honeycomb filter for preventing an increase in the pressure drop of a filter by narrowing a flow path by residues formed with joint sealing agent slurry leaked on a flow path end part which originally does not require joint sealing in a high-porosity ceramic honeycomb filter having a structure for joint-sealing a desired flow path end part.
The method includes the steps of: covering a part of the flow path by a mask at the end face of a ceramic honeycomb structure having many flow paths partitioned by a partition wall 2; immersing the end face formed with the mask of the ceramic honeycomb structure in the joint sealing agent slurry; introducing the joint sealing agent slurry into a flow path which is not covered with the mask; drying the slurry thereafter; and then burning the joint sealing agent slurry to joint-seal the desired flow path end part, wherein the residues 51 formed on the partition wall and the flow path end part with the end part of the joint sealing by carrying out removal treatment of the both end faces 15 of the ceramic honeycomb filter.
