Abstract:
To provide a method for manufacturing a honeycomb structure in which an outer wall is formed by covering outer periphery thereof with a coating material, the outer wall hardly causes troubles such as crack generation, peeling, etc., and to provide the coating material.
The outer periphery of a cell structure 2, having a plurality of cells demarcated by ceramic porous partition walls, is formed in a predetermined shape, a coating material comprising at least ceramic powder, water and a high boiling point additive whose boiling point is higher than that of water is coated so as to cover the outer periphery, and the outer wall 3 is formed by heating and drying the coating material.
