To provide a method for manufacturing a copolymer useful as a water-dispersible water/oil-repellent agent which is sufficiently water/oil- repellent, remoter from the danger of ignition, and less detrimental to human health and environments, and a water/oil-repellent agent having such features.
The method for manufacturing the copolymer composition contains a process wherein at least one selected from the group consisting of acrylates and methacrylates having a fluoroalkyl group and at least one selected from the group consisting of fluorine-free monomers copolymerizable with the acrylate or methacrylate having a fluoroalkyl group are emulsion- polymerized in an aqueous solution containing 3-methyl-3-methoxybutanol. A water/oil-repellent agent containing the copolymer composition is also provided.
