To provide a method for manufacturing a translucent curable material having a high refractive index, comprising inorganic particles, particularly inorganic fine particles with low wavelength dependence of the refractive index in the form of dispersion, so as to obtain desired optical characteristic (e.g. refractive index) in a simple and efficiently manufacturing manner.
The method for manufacturing a curable material includes: a step for mixing a dispersed fluid in which inorganic particles having the isoelectric point at pH 7.0 or more is dispersed in an aqueous medium and pH is adjusted to be lower than the isoelectric point of the inorganic particles with a solution obtained by dissolving a saturated carboxylic acid having 6 or more carbon atoms except a carboxyl group and a pKa lower than a pH of the dispersed fluid in an organic solvent that may phase-separate with the aqueous medium to obtain an emulsion comprising inorganic particles surface-modified with the saturated carboxylic acid; a step for separating the emulsion into an aqueous medium phase and an organic solvent phase comprising surface-modified inorganic particles; a step for removing the organic solvent from the organic solvent phase comprising the surface-modified inorganic particles; and a step for mixing the surface-modified inorganic particles with a curable component.
