PURPOSE: To manufacture dimensionally correct compacts by changing the target position of a press ram or bed in a final pressing position in such a manner that the height of the compact is decreased in the final pressing position by a value corresponding to the compact elastic force after molding by which the height is increased.
CONSTITUTION: Iron powder 2 packed in a lower mold 1 is compacted by the press ram 3 and the press bed 4 until the spacing between the press ram 3 and the press bed 4 corresponds to the target height of the compact 2. When the compact 2 is released from the mold dependently upon the density of the resulted iron powder, the pressing force corresponding to the generated elastic force of the compact is obtd. The press ram 3 and the press bed 4 approach each other by the value of this elastic force. When the compact 2 is released in this method, the target height of the compact 2 is exactly obtd. by the generated elastic force.
