An electron emitting element includes a structure which has a hollow section 12 separated with a barrier 14, is provided with a cathode electrode 16 and an electron emission source 18 in the hollow section 12, and is provided with a gate electrode 20 on the barrier 14. A method for manufacturing the electron emitting element includes a step of anodically bonding the gate electrode 20 on the barrier 14.
