To provide a method for manufacturing a fibrous metal adsorbent which can efficiently adsorb a heavy metallic element, simply and at a low cost, and also, a fibrous metal adsorbent which uses a cellulose as a parent material composed of a cellulose fiber containing an N-carboxymethylated polyamine-based polymer.
First, a polyamine-based polymer composed of a polyallylamine polymer or its copolymer or a polymethacryl amine or its copolymer, all of these being capable of forming a complex with various kinds of metals, is N-carboxymethylated. Then, an N-carboxymethylated polyamine-based polymer is obtained and mixed into a viscose manufactured by a known method. Further, this mixture is made into a cellulose fiber containing the N-carboxymethylated polyamine-based polymer by wet fiber spinning of the known viscose process. Thus the fibrous metal adsorbent with high metal adsorption efficiency can be easily manufactured at a low cost.
