To provide a method for manufacturing a flexible display device in which the production yield and the stability of the manufacturing process are improved.
The method for manufacturing a flexible display device includes: a stage of forming, on one face of a first substrate, an insulating protective layer whose selective etching ratio to the first substrate is 1/20 or less; a stage of forming a display element on the insulating protective layer; a stage of attaching the flexible substrate on the display element; and a stage of etching the first substrate. The flexible display device includes the flexible substrate, and the display element layer formed on the flexible substrate. At least one of the etching ratio of glass to the insulating protection layer and the etching ratio of stainless steel to the insulating protection layer is 1:20 or higher.
