To provide a method of manufacturing a fluid dynamic pressure bearing at rather low cost whereby the axial height of play can be accurately controlled.
The housing end face 34 of a fixed part 3 is allowed to abut on the thrust face 23 of a rotating part 2, and a ring member 25 having an extraction prevention function is fitted to the inner peripheral surface 24a of the cylindrical peripheral wall 24 of a hub and allowed to abut on the engagement step part 35 of a housing projected part 33. Next, a housing 32 is held by a tool 8, and axially moved by an amount equal to the height of the play. Thus, the ring member 25 is also axially moved by the amount equal to the height of the play. By temporarily fixing the ring member 25 while the tool 8 is fixed at the height of the play, an extraction preventer can be disposed in the accurately controlled state of the height of the play.
