Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas diffusion electrode by which in manufacturing a gas diffusion electrode of a fuel battery including a conductive porous base and a fine porous layer formed on the porous base by coating, a step of a heat treatment on the fine porous layer can be performed in safety with good energy efficiency, and a good power generation performance can be achieved.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a gas diffusion electrode which is used for a polymer electrolyte fuel battery and which has a conductive porous base and a fine porous layer formed on at least one surface of the conductive porous base comprises: a coating liquid coating step in which the conductive porous base is coated with a coating liquid containing conductive fine particles, a water-repellent agent and a surfactant; a first thermal treatment step in which a thermal treatment is performed on the conductive porous base after the coating liquid coating step at a temperature below a melting point of the water-repellent agent for the purpose of removing the surfactant; and a second thermal treatment step in which a thermal treatment is performed on the conductive porous base after the first thermal treatment step at a temperature equal to or higher than the melting point of the water-repellent agent.
