Abstract:

To provide an improved method for manufacturing a heat resistant mat in which an organic binder substantially uniformly exists and thickness is substantially uniform in a method for manufacturing the heat resistant mat constituted by including the organic binder disappearing due to pyrolysis in an alumina fiber mat compressed in a thickness direction.

The method for manufacturing the heat resistant mat contains a first process in which the alumina fiber mat is impregnated with an organic binder liquid, a second process in which the alumina fiber mat impregnated with the organic binder liquid is compressed in the thickness direction and a third process in which a medium liquid of the organic binder liquid is removed while maintaining thickness of the compressed alumina fiber mat. Further alumina fiber having 30 to 60° dynamic lead angle of contact with water is used as the alumina fiber and dispersed liquid of organic binder in water is used as the organic binder liquid.
