Abstract:

To provide a porous honeycomb structure which separates, or concentrates a specific substance, or does the like, from a mixture of gases or liquids, and is usable also as a catalyst support.

The porous honeycomb structure is provided with porous silica on the honeycomb wall surface of a honeycomb base body. Preferably, the average pore size of the silica of the silica layer is ≤50 nm and the specific surface area is 100-1,000 m2/g. As the honeycomb base body, that made of metal or ceramic is used.
