To provide a method for manufacturing a hot rolled steel sheet, capable of manufacturing the hot rolled steel sheet of high strength stably in excellent quality.

The method includes roughly rolling a slab by hot rolling with a rough mill, winding up the roughly rolled sheet bar with an endless rolling machine 11, joining its tip portion to the tail end portion of the preceding sheet bar after winding off, carrying out endless rolling for finish-rolling the sheet bar into a target sheet thickness (2.3 mm or less) with a finishing mill 12, carrying out its cooling until winding after the finish rolling by a conventional cooling device 14 and a strong cooling device 15 installed on the runout table 13, and then winding it up on a winding device (a coiler) 16 at a coiling temperature of 600°C or lower (400°C or lower if necessary).
