To provide a method for manufacturing a hydrogen generating medium which generates hydrogen by contacting with water or steam, does not need a container excellent especially in acid resistance, is easily disposable after the reaction, and is recyclable to be used repeatedly for the reaction of time.
The hydrogen generating medium is composed of iron or iron oxide to which a solid acid is added. The hydrogen generating medium is obtained by immersing iron or iron oxide particles in an aqueous solution of a salt of a cationic element which is more cationic than oxygen forming the solid acid, evaporating and exsiccating the aqueous solution in which the iron or iron oxide particles are immersed, and firing the dried substance in the presence of oxygen. Alternatively, the hydrogen generating medium is obtained by immersing iron or iron oxide particles in an aqueous solution of a salt of a cationic element which is more cationic than oxygen, depositing the cationic element on the iron or iron oxide particles with an addition of a deposition agent, and firing the iron or iron oxide particles on which the cationic element is deposited in the presence of oxygen.
