Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a hydroxyethyl starch suitable for a metal ion carrier.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a hydroxyethyl starch carrying a heptonic acid residue on at least one of its termini comprises a) dissolving a hydroxyethyl starch in water to obtain a hydroxyethyl starch solution, b) adjusting the pH value of the solution to 8.0 to 10.0, c) adding a cyanide compound to the hydroxyethyl starch solution, heating the solution to a temperature of 80 to 99°C and keeping the solution at this temperature for a prescribed first time period, and d) adjusting the pH value of the solution obtained in the step c) to 2.0 to 4.0, setting the solution to a temperature of 50 to 90°C, and keeping the solution at this temperature for a prescribed second time period.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
