To provide a method for manufacturing an ink jet recording sheet which can stably form a color material accepting layer having good film surface without bringing about a crack, a gloss unevenness or the like by avoiding occurrence of a coating fault such as a stripe, an unevenness or the like.

The method for manufacturing the ink jet recording sheet comprises the steps of excessively imparting a solution containing a crosslinker and a mordant to the surface of a coating film containing inorganic pigment fine particles and a water soluble resin of a water content of 1,000 to 200%, then smoothing metering by a wire bar, forming the color material accepting layer, setting the tension of at least at a region thus smoothed and metered of the support to 30 to 300 N/m, and setting a lapping angle of the support to the bar to 0 to 2°.
