Abstract:
Provided is a liquid crystal display element which is capable of suppressing a phenomenon wherein the internal offset voltage of a liquid crystal cell changes with time, while maintaining the ability of developing asymmetric pretilt angles. A method for producing a liquid crystal display element, which is characterized by comprising: a liquid crystal alignment film formation step wherein a first liquid crystal alignment film that has a structure of formula (1) is formed on a first substrate; a liquid crystal alignment film formation step wherein a second liquid crystal alignment film that has at least one structure selected from among formulae (2-1) to (2-4) and has a composition different from the composition of the first liquid crystal alignment film is formed on a second substrate; a liquid crystal layer formation step wherein a liquid crystal layer that contains a liquid crystal compound is subsequently formed between the pair of substrates; and a step wherein a polymerizable compound in the liquid crystal layer is caused to react by irradiating the liquid crystal cell with ultraviolet light, while applying a voltage to the liquid crystal cell.
