To provide a method for manufacturing a magnetic head which dispenses with mechanical polishing on the end face of an SBS side, realizes easy manufacturing of the magnetic head and reduction in the manufacturing facility costs.
A stacked layer 2 including TMR elements 6 equivalent to a plurality of magnetic heads is formed on a wafer 101 constituting the substrates 1 equivalent to the plurality of magnetic heads (step S1). Then, each bar (structure) 102 in which the parts of the plurality of magnetic heads are arrayed in a single file is cut out from the wafer 101 in which the stacked layer 2 is formed by a diamond cutter or the like (step S2). Then, the face of the bar 102 on a magnetic recording medium side is etched without mechanically polishing the same (steps S3 to S6).
