Abstract:

To provide a method for manufacturing a metal-ceramic composite material of high quality free from defects such as pores, which impregnates a preform with a molten metal in a shorter time than ever.

The method for manufacturing the metal-ceramic composite material of high quality in a short time comprises employing ceramic powder or ceramic fiber as a reinforcement, heating the preform consisting of the ceramic and an aluminum alloy in a contact state at 680-900°C in an atmosphere of nitrogen which is obtained by means of decomposing an ammonia gas, and impregnating the preform with the molten metal of the aluminum alloy under a non-pressurizing state.
